What Is Calcium Hypochlorite (CHC)
Calcium hypochlorite is a white solid that you can purchase in granular or tablet form. It is used to disinfect water and kill off bacteria that could make you sick. Its uses extend to swimming pools, drinking water for small communities and industrial food processing. Calcium Hypochlorite CHC 70% ( also called bleaching powder) is a white crystalline solid, decomposes at 170 C, decomposes in water and alcohol, not hygroscopic, practically clear in water solution. It is produced by passing chlorine gas over slaked lime. Chlorine is a general biocide substance killing germs, micro-organisms, algae, etc. The most widely used chloride chemical disinfectants are chlorine, ozone, chlorine dioxide and chloramine. Hypochlorite is an alternative choline source when chlorine gas is impractical. The commercially available liquid form is sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl). Hypochlorite is the common name for chlorate(I) salt. Calcium Hypochlorite quickly forms hypochlorous acid (the kil...
